What’s happening: This week, over 120 professional anglers are stopping by Springfield for a multiday fishing event, The Great Midwestivus. On Friday and Saturday, anglers will head out to lakes, rivers and creeks in the area to compete in the tournament.

The event is hosted by Kayak Adventure Series, and the tournament is just one part of the multiday event. Anglers will also have the opportunity to attend seminars and presentations at various locations across town, while enjoying local cuisine and amenities.

On Saturday evening, there will be a Closing Ceremony Festival at CO-Hatch Springfield, from 3:30-5:30 p.m., complete with yard games, kayak and truck demos, and food. Following that, awards will be handed out at The State Theatre.

Why it matters: Springfield is just one stop on this year’s calendar for the Kayak Adventure Series, but its potential for local impact is big. Leaders from the Greater Springfield Partnership estimate that social media posts from this event will put millions of eyes on the city, not to mention the influx of visitors over the weekend.
