Second Sundays at SMoA are Free, Fun, and Fantastic

There are several great reasons to pay Springfield Museum of Art a visit this coming Sunday, July 13, 2024. For one, from 12:30pm - 4:30pm, general admission is free, as part of regular Second Sunday programming at SMoA.

Another is that one of their current exhibits, "Playground: Constructing My Identity," presents a joyfully exuberant exploration of artist Ju Yun's hybrid Korean-American identity in her hybrid playground-studio. In this space, the mundane becomes magical as she uses hair extensions, tinsel, pom-poms, and her sense of humor to construct fanciful iterations of her own identity.

Second Sundays also include, "Come Find Art," which features a different artist from the galleries and an open studio for making art inspired by the techniques and or materials used by the artist. This month's artist is Kim Vito, Professor of Art and co-head of Printmaking at Wright State University. Visitors may watch the artist produce new work, spark up an artsy conversation or even try printmaking in the open studio.

Finally, area artists who would like to meet other artists, and receive feedback on their projects, ideas, theories, or what have you, are welcomed to bring in their finished works and works-in-progress, for casual discussion and critique. These sessions are held from 1pm-3pm and are intended to provide a supportive space for engaging conversations and artistically edifying experiences. Free to attend, no registration required.
