Springfield City School District will provide supplies for K-8 students for fifth consecutive year

What’s happening: For the fifth year in a row, Springfield City School District will supply necessary supplies for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Those supplies will include crayons, scissors, and folders, among other items.

According to the district, approximately 5,400 students will benefit from this initiative. 

What they’re saying: “Back-to-school season should be a time of excitement and new beginnings — not anxiety over what families can or cannot afford. By providing these supplies, we’re removing a major source of stress for parents and caregivers, especially those with multiple children. This initiative allows families to focus on what really matters: helping their children feel confident, supported and ready to learn on the first day of school.” – ,” SCSD Superintendent Bob Hill.

Why it matters: As Hill explains, providing supplies helps alleviate stress for families. The district started supplying students with the necessary materials to help relieve strain caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the press release, the district has seen how this initiative has impacted the community and decided to continue doing it.

More info: Springfield City School District schools will welcome students back in August. Students in grades one through nine will return August 18, students in grades ten through twelve will return August 19, and kindergarten’s first day is August 20.
